Fire action poster examples

On this page are a number of examples of Fire Action posters that should be on display in Places of Worship.  The first is for buildings with an electrical fire alarm, the second is for a building without a fire alarm system.

If you discover or suspect fire

    • Sound the fire alarm
    • Leave the building by the nearest available exit
    • Go to the fire assembly point: __________
    • Report the fire to __________
    • Call the fire brigade (dial 999) from outside the building
    • Do not return to the building unless you are told that it is safe

If you hear the fire alarm
(The fire alarm is a continuously ringing bell)

    • Immediately leave the building by the nearest available exit
    • Go to the fire assembly point: __________
    • Do not return to the building unless you are told that it is safe

Do not take risks: fire starts easily and spreads very rapidly
Occasional fire drills will be held.
Do not use lifts in the event of fire

In many buildings the above is adequate, especially where people are familiar with the building.  In larger Churches, where the fire safety arrangements are more complex and people are not likely to be familiar with the building, additional instructions might be needed for staff and stewards to give to the public.  This might include a special announcement to be given in the event of fire to inform people about the need to evacuate the premises.

A simplified version for smaller premises is below.  This assumes there is no fire alarm system and that the person discovering the fire will call the Fire and Rescue Service.

Small buildings

In small buildings where there is no fire alarm, a similar notice should be on display, such as:

If you discover or suspect fire

    • Shout "FIRE" loudly
    • Call the fire brigade (dial 999) from outside the building

    In case of fire

    • Immediately leave the building by the nearest available exit
    • Go to the fire assembly point: __________
    • Do not return to the building unless you are told that it is safe

Do not take risks: fire starts easily and spreads very rapidly
